Graffiti Magic™ Anti Graffiti
Paint - Surface Suitability Guide
Graffiti Magic is suitable for use on most common
building substrates.
The table below is a general guide to suitability and surface preparation
requirements.
|
| Material |
Suitability |
Comments |
Brickwork |
 |
Suitable

|
Ideally suited.
Depending on the porosity of the brick, substrate may darken on
application of Graffiti Magic.
To prevent darkening and retain the original colour of the brick,
seal with one coat of Non Darkening Sealer prior to application
of Graffiti Magic.
|
Concrete / Render
Fibro Cement |
 |
Suitable

|
Ideally suited.
Concrete, render, fibro-cement are porous substrates that will
darken on application of Graffiti Magic.
To prevent darkening seal with one coat of Non Darkening Sealer
prior to application of Graffiti Magic.
|
Treated Timber
(CCA treated) |
 |
Suitable

|
Suitable, i.e. sound attenuation barriers.
Timber will darken slightly on application of Graffiti Magic.
|
Sandstone |
 |
Suitable over appropriate sealer
|
Suitable, however it is recommended
that surface is sealed with one coat of Non Darkening Sealer to
retain the original natural features and to avoid darkening of the
substrate.
|
Textured Finishes
|
 |
Suitable over appropriate basecoat/sealer
|
Suitable for textured finishes when
applied over the appropriate base coat or sealer.
|
Signage and Murals
|
 |
Test for adhesion to assess for suitability
|
Graffiti Magic does not adhere well
to some plastics and painted surfaces.
Adhesion should be checked on all signage or mural surfaces.
Refer
to Adhesion Test - Method Graffiti
Magic to assess suitability before application.
|
Metals |
 |
Test for adhesion

|
Generally recommended for most metals
including Galvanised Steel, Aluminium, Bronze, etc.
However adhesion tests should always be carried out prior to application
of Graffiti Magic to metal surfaces to determine suitability.
Refer
to Adhesion Test Method - Graffiti
Magic.
|
Painted Surfaces
(other than timber) |
 |
Always consult the paint manufacturer
before application of Graffiti Magic to any painted surface. |
Graffiti Magic should NOT be used
over painted surfaces unless approved by the manufacturer.
Many decorative paints will soften and stain when aggressive cleaning
agents are used to remove graffiti.
Graffiti Magic will NOT protect against staining and may lose
adhesion if inappropriate graffiti cleaning agents have been used.
|
Untreated or Painted
Timber |
 |
Not suitable |
Not recommended on untreated or pre-painted
timber surfaces.
Timber is an unstable substrate and generally requires repainting
more frequently than stable substrates.
Graffiti Magic is a clear coating and does not protect untreated
timber against the effects of ultra violet (UV) sunlight. |
Adhesion Test Method
When Graffiti Magic is to be employed over existing paint
work, signage or murals, etc. adhesion
should be checked over all surfaces as follows to ensure suitability:-
Finger dab Graffiti Magic to a small area of substrate
(5-10 cm2 is sufficient) and allow to dry overnight.
For signage and murals, after sufficient dry time has
elapsed, rub firmly across the test area with a finger to check for
loss of adhesion.
For other painted surfaces, rub firmly with a rag soaked
with White Spirit then finger rub across the test area as for signage
and murals.
If there is no evidence of adhesion loss Graffiti Magic
can be applied to a surface.
